Spring is coming and so are baby mammals—and they need milk! Almost half of our annual food budget is devoted to purchasing the specific formula that each orphaned patient needs, be it raccoon, fawn, mink—or any other mammal baby that arrives at our hospital. Each species has different requirements for fat, protein, and carbohydrates. And each is bottle fed for different lengths of time: for raccoons it is 9 to10 weeks, and for fawns it is around 12 weeks. These babies are fed every 3 to 4 hours around the clock. Older fawns consume over a liter of formula per day. That’s a lot of formula!

All entrance donations received at the MARS Visitor Centre in March will go to buying formula. You can also donate via Canada Helps (leave a note saying your donation is for animal formula) or purchase baby items on our wish list. Thank you!
