This male Belted Kingfisher was found on the bank of the Quinsam River by a fisherman. The bird was entangled in fishing line. He was driven to Campbell River Veterinary Hospital, where Dr. Woodward painstakingly removed the very fine mono filament from around the birds neck. Stressed but otherwise OK, he was taken right back where he was found and released, bolting from the carrier and flying up into a tree. His mate could be heard chattering nearby. Discarded fishing line can be a deathtrap for wildlife. When seen anywhere outdoors, please pick it up and dispose of it properly.
